HANDMADE FROM FULL-GRAIN ITALIAN CALF LEATHER

Caoba — Spanish for mahogany — is the warmest leather in the range. A rich, mid-depth brown that works where black feels too formal and tan feels too casual: with grey flannel, with olive chinos, with everything in between. Of the three colours, this is the one that improves most dramatically with age, deepening and gaining character with every wear.

Hand-lasted in Almansa, Spain from full-grain Italian calf leather selected hide by hide before cutting.

Four layers. Forty hours.

Every pair starts with a hide selected by hand in northern Italy and ends 40 hours later in Almansa, Spain.

The leather
Italian calf. Nothing else.

We use full-grain calf leather from six tanneries in northern Italy — the same region that supplies Hermès and Berluti. Full-grain means the top layer of the hide is kept intact. It is the most durable, most beautiful, and most honest cut of leather you can use.

The construction
Hand-lasted. In Spain.

Lasting is the process of stretching the leather upper over a last — the foot-shaped mould that determines the final shape of the shoe. At our atelier in Almansa, this is done by hand. Each pair is shaped, stretched, and set by a craftsman who has been doing it for years.

From hide to your hands

Five stages. Forty hours. One pair.

Where it’s made
Almansa, Spain. Since the 16th century.

Almansa is a small city in Castile-La Mancha that has been making shoes for 500 years. Our atelier produces approximately 200 pairs a month. They are not a factory. They are a workshop that happens to be very good at what they do.
